Accessibility is not a feature. It is a right.
Iris is built from the ground up with accessibility as a core principle. We don't add accessibility after the fact — we design for it first.
Our Standards
Iris is built to meet or exceed:
- WCAG 2.2 Level AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the international standard for web accessibility
- Section 508 — U.S. federal accessibility requirements for information and communication technology
- ADA Title III — ensuring digital accessibility as a public accommodation
What This Means in Practice
Visual Accessibility
- Adjustable text size from 16px to 48px across the entire app
- High contrast mode that meets WCAG AAA contrast ratios
- No information conveyed by color alone — all states use text or icons
- Large, clear caption display designed for readability at a distance
Motor Accessibility
- Full keyboard navigation throughout the app
- No interactions that require fine motor precision
- Touch targets meet the minimum 44x44 pixel requirement
- No time-limited interactions — users set their own pace
Cognitive Accessibility
- Clear, simple language throughout the interface
- Consistent navigation and layout patterns
- Reduced motion support that respects the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference - No flashing or strobing content
Screen Reader Support
- Semantic HTML with proper ARIA labels
- Logical heading hierarchy on every page
- Descriptive link text — no "click here"
- Live regions for dynamic content updates
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is not a checkbox. We continuously test Iris with:
- Automated accessibility scanning tools
- Manual keyboard and screen reader testing
- Feedback from users with disabilities
- Regular audits against updated WCAG guidelines
